Brief Description

The St. Joseph's Hill Open Space Preserve provides a great destination for mountain bikers to quickly escape the urban society of the Santa Clara Valley and ride in the congestion-free open space of St. Joseph's Hill. The mostly steep trail network brings on a good challenge for intermediate riders while supplying rewarding views of the south bay as well as Lexington Reservoir. Close connections to the Los Gatos Creek Trail provide a great option for riders looking for extended rides.

Length: The entire trail network consists of about 5 miles of mostly hilly terrain.
Hours: 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset.
Trail Conditions: The entire trail network is dirt. The trails can be muddy after periods of rain. Most of the trails are two-way.

Location and Map

The St. Joseph's Hill Open Space Preserve is located in the foothills between downtown Los Gatos and Lexington Reservoir. Preserve parking and access is available adjacent to the Lexington Dam. Limited preserve access is also available at the end of Jones Road just minutes from Main Street Los Gatos.

  • The trail network is very steep is some places and is recommended for mountain bike riders with intermediate riding experience.
  • St. Joseph's Hill is a popular destination for fellow joggers, hikers, and cyclists. Share the trail and right-of-way.
  • Always wear safety gear and make sure your bike is in proper working order.
